Here at Chiswick Park, we are passionate about enhancing our biodiversity, through conserving, protecting and cultivating a variety of habitats, plants and wildlife.

This week, we are running our Keep it Green campaign, which aims to highlight how we enhance our biodiversity across the Campus and the many initiatives that we have in place.

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one area—the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world. Each of these species and organisms work together in ecosystems, like an intricate web, to maintain balance and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and shelter.

From our partnership with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and our natural wildflower areas, to our Insect Hotels and Bird Boxes, there are lots of things happening around the Park to enhance our biodiversity, led by our Landscaping and Wildlife Manager, Nelson Milburn.

  • We have allocated zones around the Campus that we leave wild, as these natural areas with native plants make great habitats for a diverse range of wildlife.

  • This year, we installed 6 new bird boxes for our feathered friends to nest in and created a new Insect Hotel for bugs using recycled items from around the Campus.

  • We have around 100,000 honeybees in our on-site beehives and we are also working with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to monitor and help conserve bumblebees and their habitat.
