5 Simple Ways To Help Reduce Stress

With everything that is currently going on in the world around us, it’s hard not to feel a little stressed out right now.

Stress and mental health problems have never been more important than now, and the challenges they present never more acute than in the wake of the pandemic. Almost 1 in 5 adults were likely to be experiencing some form of depression during the pandemic in June 2020. This has almost doubled from around 1 in 10 before the pandemic (July 2019 to March 2020).

As this week is International Stress Awareness Week 2020, we want to share a few tips and tricks to help you de-stress.

  1. Keep it balanced – This one is easier said than done, but having a balance between your workday and home life is more important than ever. It’s now so easy for these lines to be blurred while WFH, so ensure to set your own boundaries and stick to them.

  2. Find three “good things” – At the end of the day, try writing down 3 things that went well that day and why. It will change your mindset from negative to more positive, and make you appreciate the small wins more.

  3. Sleep more – We all feel groggy and more on edge when we haven’t had enough sleep. Sleep helps our brain recharge and allows us to learn and make memories. We should all be aiming to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, if not more.

  4. Reach out to others – It’s important to remind yourself that you are not alone. Make sure you’re not suffering in silence, reach out to people who genuinely care about you and let them support you when you need it.

  5. Get fresh air – Get outside and go for a walk or run when you can. Being cooped up inside the house all day doesn't do anybody any favours. Fresh air helps to send plenty of oxygen through the blood and being in nature is a known stress-reliever.
