5 Ways to Stay Positive this Yellow Monday

Blue Monday claims to be the most depressing day of the year. But there have been too many depressing days recently, so we have decided to turn Blue Monday into Yellow Monday, the most positive day of the year!

We want you to look at today through a brand-new lens, and focus on sharing positivity, doing things that make you feel good and switching your mindset.

It’s been a difficult start to 2021, so it’s more important than ever that we focus on our mental health and sharing positive energy with others who may also need it too. Here are a few ways to keep a positive mindset today (and every day!).

Make time to reach out to friends & family

Although we may not be able to physically embrace our nearest and dearest at the moment, we can make that phone call or arrange a time to speak with them online.

We’re naturally social creatures and feel better when we interact and connect with other people. Talking any issues over with other people can also reframe any problems and help you move through them more easily.

Keep moving and get some fresh air

Getting outdoors for exercise can be more of a challenge in winter, but almost all experts agree that it is a great way to boost your wellbeing. Exercise triggers the release of endorphins into the bloodstream producing a feeling of well-being, so pop outside for some fresh air and get moving to really lift your mood.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be a marathon; something as simple as something like a brisk walk, a spot of gardening or a cycle ride will do the trick.

Have a digital detox

Increased screen time is something we are all probably guilty of at the moment, so it’s important to give yourself a break. A digital detox can help you relax and clear your mind as you’ll be avoiding a lot of irrelevant information that we’re bombarded with every day. By momentarily removing yourself from the digital world, you will instead focus more on being in the moment.

Perhaps take a tech-free lunch break or keep tech out of the bedroom to have some ‘you’ time and unplug from the digital world. You could also do something as simple as switching off some push notifications on your phone to avoid the temptation to pick it up.

Learn to be an optimist

Optimists live longer, have better immune systems, and enjoy better relationships. Sounds great, right? Well, the good news is you can learn to be an optimist.

A key part of being an optimist is in fact to do things ‘badly’. In other words, don’t put pressure on yourself to do everything perfectly all the time.

If you want to learn a new skill or step outside of your comfort zone – go for it! Don’t let any negative thoughts stand in your way.

Set a new target

Setting a new goal or target, can really help you focus and keep a positive mindset. It could be a big project like learning a language or something as small as trying out a new recipe that evening.

If big ideas are too much, start small with more manageable targets.

If it's outside your comfort zone, and it's pushing you forward, it gives you a focus and a sense of control, and for many people that's hugely helpful for their mental state.
