This summer, Chiswick Park saw the emergance of a giant stag beetle.
Unfortunately, loss of habitat is currently affecting this species in London gardens. Stag beetles require dead wood stumps to feed and complete their life cycle, and they take a long three to seven years to hatch!
At Chiswick Park, we have recycled wood from our gardening projects to create stumperies. These act as wood habitats for all kinds of invertebrates, including the stag beetle. Several stag beetles were spotted this summer across our stumperies.
This is a huge accomplishment in our efforts to preserve invertebrate biodiversity across the park.
